NEW MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS.
PROPOSAL FOR LOAN. At Tuesday night 's x meeting of the Shannon Borough Council Or. Hyde asked for an opinion from the Council as to the advisability of including in the proposed loan for improvements, the erection of a new municipal building, as the present building would not last much longer. Cr. Gunning said he favoured a new municipal building being included, provided the various items were made separate issues. Cr. Curran thought that if the present building was painted and done up it could be made to last for a long time. The Mayor said if it was decided to place "the matter before the ratepayers the great question to consider would be whether to -havio a municipal building solely or a building also containing either shops, offices or a hall. Cr. Gunning was of the opinion that there were already plenty of shops in the town, but he thought there might be a demand for suitable offices. Cr. Curran said if anything was done in the direction mooted, he would favour a municipal hall. It was pointed out that there was not sufficient land to include a hall, and Councillors did not favour it after the experience of other towns. Thfc) Council favoured the idea of including a new building in the loan but decided to deal with the matter at a later date.
