AMERICAN OFFERS FOR BUTTER.
ACCEPT REPORT WITH RESERVE
Referring to the New York cable staling that American buyers Avere prepared to offer 1/9 f.o.b. for New Zealand butter of high quality,, Mr A. J. Sinclair, acting-manager of the NJew Zealand (Dairy Co,, stated at Pukekura on Saturday that this statement should be accepted with reserve. His Company was the largest exporter of New" Zealand butter ito ttlie United States, and a very satisfactory connection had _ been maintained this season. Mr Sinclair said, however, that with the experience of several seasons behind it, his Company was opposed to the policy of selling butter to America f.o.b. Auckland, and had made arrangements at the beginning of the present season: for one of its agents to establish branch offices at New York and San Francisco, whlGre all shipments of his Company’s butter to America were handled on.a consignment basis, übder the supervision of the Company’s London manager, Mr J. B. Wright. The arrangement had worked out exceedingly well, and Mr Sinclair forecasted a considerable extension of New Zealand’s butter activities ih the United States, in spite ol the excessive, tariff of eight cents a lb.
