SOLDIERS' FARMS.
REVALUATION PROCESS
REARRANGEMENTS IN WELLINGTON DISTRICT.
Information Avas sought from the Minister of Lands, 4he Hon. D. H.
Guthrie, regarding the progress of the Avork in connection. Avith the revalua- ' lion of soldiers' farms, provided for in the legislation of last .session. The Minister stated that the Dominion Board had held several meeting',
arranged, all details, and attended to the requirements of district cominit- "- tees, such as. location, etc., and 'had generally supervised the commencement of the work. The'district committees, he' said, were now "at Avork, and reports Avere coming to hand freely. The Dominion Board Avould hold its first meeting of the new, year next Aveek, and it Avals' 'anticipated that tihe board would require to sit very frequently from riOAV onwards to cope Avith .the reports of the district committees.
\Owirig to the large number of holdings in the Wellington West district and with a view to. expediting the Avork, it had been decided to divide the district and constitute two new districts to be known as Wellington Cemferal, Wellington South. The Wellington Central district would be the old Wellington west, bounded on the south by the Man&watu River, and the Wellington South district would ex- . tend from the Manawatu River southwards. In order to give effect to this decision it had been necessary to revoke the appointment of the commit- • tee for the Wellington West district and appoint committees for the two new districts. The committees appointed were as follows : Wellington Central: Messrs.L. T. McLean, Cheltenham (chairman), F. Purnell, Marton; W. S. Penny, Sanson. Wellington South: Messrs. James Wall, Porirua (chairman); R S. McRoe, Whakaronga; J. Munro Wilson, Palmerston North. Messrs McLean, Munro, Wilson and Purnell formed tlhe committee former--.ly appointed for the Wellington West, district. The. new committee-will commence operations immediately; there will then be 24 district committees operating throughout thie Dominion. With the holidays past and the shearing over, stated Mr Gultori©, the members of the district committees should,be able to devote the major portion of their time to revaluation work, and it Was hoped that within a. few months a very large proportion of the farms would (be* finally dealt with.
