FOR DECEMBER QUARTER, BIG INCREASE IN ADVANCES. - WELLINGTON,. Jan. 14. The bank returns for the December quarter show the following figures : Free deposits ...24,261,042 Fixed deposits 18,5691135 Government deposits 3,59&,320 Note circulation ~.. 6,643,900 Discounts -.., !..••-•- 1,801,538
Advances • •••• 44,427,858 Coins and bullion 7,877,841 Deposits increased £1,750,000 on the corresponding quarter of 1922, but advances were a little' more than £2V--750,000 greater. The returns from the wool sales, at which improved prices > have been operating, did not come into the quarter under review,. 'but will have a beneficial effect on the current quarter's bank returns. The considerable importations of Into have also heen a factor in making calls on the banks for funds rather heavier than usolal.
