LAST NIGHT'S MEETING.

A meeting of the. Horowhen.ua "Patriotic Society executive committee was held last night, Mr "P. W. ..Goldsmith presiding. ■■T-hie/e Were also present, Mrs T- F. Gibson and Messrs C. S. Keedwell and F. P. WaJMey. A soldier wrote asking lor a further loan of £5 as the previous one of £l2 ihad proved inadequate. In a second letter he stated that the amount he required was £ls. He would commence repaying the loan at his earliest convenience.

From the Manawatu Patriotic Society stating that a soldier on whose behalf the Society had applied to it for a loan of £2O had. received £2O under t its Partial Distribution scheme, and' alter fully considering the application the. committee had decided he was'not entitled to further assistance.—Received.

From ••the Canterbury Patriotic Society in reference to a refusal by it by wire of a grant of £1 to a man who had applied for that, saijn to the Horowhenua Society, stating that this man had spent a -lot of time applying to Patriotic Societies for loans and incurred a good deal of expense in telegrams.—Received. From the War Relief Association stating that the name and number of a man re whom the Society was enquiring were not in the Expeditionary Force roll.—Received.

': From the Marlborough. Patriotic Society stating that a Horowhenua man, who was; bee farming, in its district had had his apiaries scattered about by the flood and.had had to go into the hospital. He (had returned and taken up his /arm again but was unable to pay the instalments on his loan from the Horowhenua Society.—Decided to defer the payments. A statement of accounts for the two months ending January 16, 1924, showed that expenditure had totalled £167 5 S 4d, and receipts £246 9s 9d, leaving a credit balance, of £79 4s sd. Two applications for loans from new cases were received and considered and referred to the next meeting of the management committee.
