Mr and Dr. Atmore have returned to Oitaki from an. enjoyable motor trip of the North Island, extending over a period of three weeks. On the north■ern trips they visited Wauganui and New Plymouth, thence over Mt. Messenger to Mokau and across to Tc Kuiti, Hamilton, Morrinsville, Tc Aroha, Thames, and Coromantlfel. After spending ten days at Coromandcl the party returned to Te Aroha and motored south to Matamata and then on •to Wairakci, via Tirau, Putararu, and Artiamuri. At Wairakci a break was made to visit the Aratiatia Rapids, Huka Falls, and Geyser Valley. The journey was continued to Taupo, and from there to Napier, over TurangaKumu and Titio-Kura ranges. Th'e road rises to a height of 3000 feet at the highest po'int and the scenery is magnificent. The final stages of the journey were from Napier through Hastings, Dannevirk'e, and Palmcrston North, back to Otaki. The whole trip, which exceeded 1000 miles, was accomplished without a puncture or mechanical stoppage of any kind. The weather was exceptionally good, only one show er of rain falling during the whole trip Large motor lorries, capable of carrying 150 sheep each, are being freely used in the Wairarapa for conveying sheep to various parts of the district. A splendid motor service from Mastorton to Wellington is also decreasing the revenue to tip railways.
