YESTERDAY'S MEETING
The Makerua Drainage Board met yesterday.

| No. l .Drainage 'Dredge.—This Dredge had .completed (On s&id Deqemoei) stopbank on right bank of Otauru sta'caiu iroin 23m. 30c. to peg 23m. ttoc, and lis. at presieint date on Jts w;ay do'iwji to comanence stopLa-uk .on ieitr rraiik of Ufcamu lirom Aj.aiKiwaiu River. The building of apprwicu zj -proposed new bridge over Uitauru and road ramps near No. 2 Drain Floodgate has entailed ;a .good deal of ,extr, a work which has necessarily made the average rate oi progress somewhat slower. j A .small unfinished portioiii of banli at Mrs Sullivan's has Oeen completed my H, Ashcrol't. , No. 2, B-ipper Dredge.—This dredge te,d up to 32nd Deoeniiber excavated 45 chains of new drainage channel from 3m. 33c to 3m. 78c, or 40,619 ou|b. yds, and is at present data beyond Whifcaunui Tr.ani.iine. At the present rate of progress this dredge should be at Akers Bros, drain by «nd of month.
Barber's Culvert.—This work is completed Avith tlie exception of small wing and 'apron, Avhich is now being attended to.
Kara Stream Stopbanks.—H. Ashcroft has completed the. trimming of Kara .Stopbanks. Three .and a-half chains of straightening and Avideaiing of Kara Stream at 'Railway bridge has been completed by Foreman Madden and men, and a start is being made on Williams' Floodgate (nearly opposite Barbers' Floodgate)'. Stopbanks Tokomaru Stream,.—The centre lines of banks haw been flagged off for a distance of 1 mile aibove Seil-ert's Trainwjay Bridge "and tenders will shortly he invited- for felling and clearing trees, scrub, flax, seitic, in readiness for No. 2 Dredge.' « As instructed Ave have taken out the area of land oiTtside of Manawatu River Stopbank at bend above Shannon Bridge and these are as follows: H. E. Williams, section. 6, 7.7 acres; R L. Tippler, section 8, 11.5 acres; S. L Corlett, section 4a, 10.6 acres. As the .six months' period covering the supply of coal, hardware and Engineers' Work for dredges ended on 31st December rt will be necessary for
fresh tenders to be called. Those present Avere:—Trustees .1. Liggins (in the chair), R. T. Bell, R. L. Tippler, A. L-. Seifert and H. Akers. It Avas resolved, that thle management committee and engineer be authorised to call for tenders for clearing the dredge line; on the Tokoma.m, with power to accept. It was decided to write the riorowhenua. County Council, asking if >t was prepared to accept the Board's offer that if the Council paid the Board £250, and the Government subsidy of £250, it would erect -a bridge over the Kara Stream. It was resolved that the Public Works Department be written to, pointing' out that the Board wished it to erect a "bridge over the Miaiigaone as soon as possible >a.s at present it AVas a menace to public safety. Accounts amounting to £1466 lis Hd were passed tor payment.
