OTAKI DISTURBED.
LARRIKINS MOLEST CHINESE,
Wednesday’s Otaki Mail says:— Some youths created another disturbanee in Otaki again last evening when at about 9.30 p.m. stones werethrown at the premises of Messrs Trueliglit and Co., and Sue Gee. Little damage was done at Truelight’s but one of the plate glass windows was badly scratched either with a diamond ring or some sharp instrument. A skylight in Sue Gee’s premises was broken and also a side window at A. E. Minton’s. It is believed that the youths were recognised and in all probability they will soon' be made to face just punishment for their folly. An old resident called at the ‘‘Mail” office this morning and asked if something could not be done to obtain better police protection than is at present afforded. Other districts on this coast with even a smaller population than Otaki have two constables stationed in their midst. One has no complaint to make about the way the one man here carries out his duties, but his district extends from Manakau to Paekakariki and when he is called upon to visit any outlying settlement, Otaki is left without the steadying influence and protection of a representative of the law. Surely the Chamber of Commerce and Borough Council could make a combined effort and not let the matter rest until the department appointed a sfecond officer to the district.
