Kussell a lance-corpora in the Las Surrey Regiment, • was charged with imp.SU .behaviour at the Victoria Palace. He emphatically denied the charges. . , He was a son, he said, ot the late Sir Walter Johnson. At the outbreak of th* war he was senior captain In the 7th Battalion, Essex Regiment (Territorial Force), and saw service in Gallipoli. Egypt and France,' where hecommanded a Battalion of the Essex
Regiment. .. Later he was in North Russia where he was commanding officer on the lines of communication to the Archangel force. After"the evacuation he was atfcacnt'o the Indian Army, and did duty i* India- and Mesopotamia. For his services during <he war he was awarded the D. 5.0.. and made a C.B.E. Three times he was mentioned in despatches, and retired with llie rank of lieutenant-colonel in the Territorial Force. In .February last he enlisted in the East Surrey Regiment with a vk-w to obtaining a commission in. the Regular Army. He had been recommended for a commission.
