BIG HAUL.
DIAMONDS. PLATINIUM, GOLD. £4OOO WORTH 'STOLEN. One uf the biggest hauls ,of jewellery made for many years was reported to the Sydney police 'by the loser: Madame A. Marin Antibn-eMe Avonzo, "Berringa," Caledonian road, Rose Bay, on December 9. The loss is stated by the police to be about £4OOO, but even this amount is considered to be on the conservative side in estimating the value of the heap of diamonds, platinum and gold articles taken. The property was stolen from a hat box in a bedroom between 9 a.m. and. 11 a.m. the previous day. Thje logler 'arrived in Australia about a year ngo. She had been staying near BlacMown, but later went to live at Rose Bay. She is wellknown in society circles. One of the articles stolen was a wristlet watch, a present from the Qncen of Italy. Madame Avnazo became suspicious in consequence of something that occurred, .and, going to the bedroom, opiPiniod flic thai box to see if the valuables were there. She was startled to find that they had been taken. . A telephone message was sent to the Rose Bay police station, and in .a short time detectives set about making Jhe necessary inquiries.
