HOROWHENUA POWER BOARD.
ACTIVITIES OF THE MONTH,
The following report relative to the progress of the Board’s under-
takings during', the month was presented to the Horowhenua Power Board at its meeting yesterday hy the engineer, Mr. T. R. Overton. Buildings.—All repairs to residence in Mako Mako Road have been effected satisfactory and Anal payment may now be passed. The contractor for the sub-station and attendent’s
] cottage -at Shannon is well under | way with the work, the concrete i wails of the sub-station now being j 13 feet from floor level j the hollow . and inner walls of the cottage are up six feet. Tenders. —For contracts as. follows are scheduled for your information and instructions: No. 19.—’Wattmeters. No. 220. —’Testing instruments and oil drying equipment.
No. 21.—Pole type fuses. No. 23.—Installation Group 2. No. 24,.—jGonorete cottage—'Mako Mako road.
Before date of meeting I hope to be able to make recommendations in respect of the more urgent contracts. Should this, not be possible I would rocommalhd 'that the! iUnsettled contract* be passed ,on to the standing committee for action.’
Since last meeting three trucks of poles (total 77) have arrived. General.—The framework of . the Foxton sub-station is now complete, and a number of transformer platforms have been erected. The workshop .gang have turned over 500 stays and orossarmis complete; 53 angle hooks, 40 sets of earthguards, 5 sets of transformer platform haindl-rails, besides repairs to cars, lorries, geinerl tools and sundry goods. ■ „.. . Holiday Vacation.—Regarding Christmas Day' Boxing Day and New Year’s D|ay, I would recommend that .ail [uen’ who have, been in the Board’s service for a period exceeding three months, be paid these holidays at their usual rates —additional holidays being granted upon application, with-' cut pay. Special Rate Contracts tion with the Foxton Water pumping rates; which were referred to me for report, I would recoiruxuend that toe rate be £7 10s per K.V.A. year, and ■that the hours of use shall be between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m-, the maximum demand measured quarterly. Regarding holidays if was decided on the motion of the chairman that holidays in addition to those mentioned in the report be granted to permanent employees who have been in the service of the Board 12 months, viz., Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easier Monday, Labour Day, and Anzac Day. -. Contracts 19 and 20 were held over for samples, and Rudges and Co. s tender for 21 and Ellis and Co.’s for 23 were accepted subject to approval of mjotors. The report was then adopted.
