MANGAHAO NOTES.
HIGH FLOOD LAST WEEK. DAMS BEYOND REACH. As a result of the heavy min the Mangahao river was in high flood last week, and is still considerably above normal. Fortunately the wofk is so well ini hand that it Can suffer no serious setback and beyond a Certain amount of inconvenience, no damage has been done. There are now nearly 650 men employed throughout the various camps, and as a result the work in all centres is rapidly: going ahead. The huge walls of the Mangahao and Arapeti dams are steadily rising to their required height. The tunnels are fust approaching completion, No. 1 being practically finished. To keep the supply of cement up to requirements, 5000 tons being used at Arapeti alone, is a severe tax on the lorries, which are called upon to work day and night, and also puts a hard task upon the stone crusher. 1 Work at Mangaore i> progressing satisfactorily. Thei hug© power house , of concrete, and steel has its outer frame-work finished.
