MONTHLY MEETING
A meeting of the Shannon branch of the Farmers’ Union wlais held in the Council .Chambers on Monday evening. Mr R. Tippler presided over the meeting. 1 CORRESPONDENCE.
From secretary Horowhenua County Council replying to the Union’s request thait the Council pay more attention to the by-roads in the Tokomiarul riding, stating the matter had been referred to the. councillors for the riding .and the®engineer with power to, act.-—lt was decided to reply stating this branch of the Union regrets that so far nothing has been done. ‘ !
From secretary, N.Z. Farmers’ Union, he Dairy Control Board, stating ’ that a meeting of the Dairy Council together with representatives of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union and the Dairy * Farmers’ Union had been held for the purpose of selecting the best dairy farmers available as a ticket to be supported at the forthcoming election of members (of the Dairy Control Board. Before election of nominees was commenced a resolution was unanimously carried that, the different bodies represented would support the ticket selected which was as follows: Messrs W. Grounds, W. Goodfellow, C. Motion (Auckland), H. D. Forsyth (North Taranaki), K( W. Dalrymple (Manawatui), W. lorns (Wairarapa). — It was decided that this branch of the . Union approves of the ticket selected.
From secretary, Manawatu Provincial Executive inviting the branch to appoint a delegate to. attend Provincial Executive meeting’s which are, held on the first Saturday in each month (ait Palmerston North; also stating that with reference to the remit from the branch regarding the revaluation of the Tokomaru riding, the Executive were of the opinion that the matter-was one for local action by calling a meeting of the ratepayers concerned and petitioning the County Council, but the Executive would stand behind them in any just cl>aim.—Oax the . motion of Mr Tippler, seconded by Mr Taylor, the secretary was instcuoted' to write the Palmerston North Union to ascertain if the delegate would have power to vote at the meetings and also what the benefits Would be to the branch by sending a delegate, A reply Was received from the Shannon Chamber of Commerce re. the
proposed jKopUtiaroia-Buckley.. road, which the Union had asked should be held in abeyance until such time as provision had been made for a special rating area. The letter pointed out that the Chamber’s policy is to help the district generally in its development so as to secure any legitimate improvements that will be of benefit to the whole, neighbourhood. The Chamber had given this question considerable thought and now considered the proposed Koputaroa-Buck-ley road to be of material benefit, not only to Koputaroa settlers, but also,to the whole of the surrounding district. TKe Chamber’s object is not to forward individual interests, but to assist the general prosperity of the district.—After some discussion on the question Mr Best moved find Mr Mange seconded that a letter he written to. the Chamber of Commerce expressing regret that the reply was not satisfactory as regard the Ways and means of paying for the proposed road. This was carried. Further, on. the motion of Mr Best, seconded by Mr Reid, it was resolved that this branch of the Farmers’ Union write to the Horowhenua County Council stating that they strongly, object to- -any poll being taken, over the whole- riding on the proposed Koputa-roar-Buckley road, tout that a special rating area toe formed.
