PROPOSED CUT AT FOXTON AGREED TO.

At Thursday's meeitina of the Foxton Harbour Board;, the wiree schemes for the : development, an'd the carrying capacity of the Manawatu river, and the safeguarding of the adjacent land's from flooding, as devjsed' by (the engineer to the Manavvatu-Oroua River Board, were discussed in committee. Mr S. Jickell,, engineer to> the, Harbour Board, was present and explained the nature of; the undertaking 'and the possible effect of the proposed works on the present course of the river. Three schemes were involved and it. was decided, after a full discussions, 'to agree to' the. No. 1 .cut, which was deemed most preferable by the engineers. The scheme in question is: for the construction. of a. cut through the Matakarapa swamp near Whirokino"and thence across the Rush flajt on the Mainawtu river to the sea at a point just below ' the Foxton wharf. The estimated cost of the work is '£36,000 Standard.
