SHANNON ATHLETIC CLUB.

A general meeting of the Shannon Amateur Athletic Club was held in the Council Chambers last evening. The president (Mr J. T. Bovis) presided.

It was resolved that the secretary apply for a permit to hold the next meeting on the second Saturday in February. The following were elected a committee $o up a programme of evtents .—Messrs Steer, Greedy, Downes, Crowther and the, chair- ■ man. and secretary. It was decided that the Club hold evening sports fortnightly and Ihap the sumr of £5 be set aside for trophies.-, TJie first meeting to be held on Saturday:, December sth,, com|mencing at 5.30 p.m. ! The following committee was set up to conduct the evening sports.— Messrs Satherley, , Down.es, Grimstome, Scott, Greedy and the secretary (Mr J. T. Bovis). Notice of motions was given by the secretary to rescind the date of the annual meeting to July Ist instead of. last week in September. He said this was a recouim.en(la.*iion from the centre scr"][tha|tj all Clubs could! be brought into line. PRESENTATION. Mr J. T>Bovis (president) said that it had been decided at a previous meeting to present tihe secretary (Mr Watkins)... with a, small token of appreciation for .his good work. However, as they a 11/knew at the'time ..he was seriously ill, but he was pleased to-night to see him looking so well and restored to his usual .robust state of health. In making the presentation of a complete shaving oultfiit to him, Mr Bovis said he felt a certain amiount of pleasure in more ways than one. It brought .to his mms the harmonious way in which the Work of the Athletic Club has been carried out. The great amount of this harmony Was brought about through the Avork<of Mr Watkins, who was a careful and painstaking secretory. He gave his attention, to every detail and, the whole of the last athletic gathering was carried out without a single hitch. The. m'ost wonderful! part of it all was the lack of any- friction or hostility of any kind and h© felt sure the members. of -the cluto would agree with him in awarding the praise to Mr Watkins. As a--token: of this ihe had been, asked to make the presentation 'on behalf of the .mem-, bers. as. a small token of their appreciation of the good work he had so ably.: carried out. (Applause).. '

Mr Watkins in thanking the memr bers said anything he had done for the Club, was done willingly, as -he always- -had the .welfare of the Club at heart. . '
