£IOOO PROFIT FROM TRENTHAM MEETING. COMMITTEE TO REPORT ON ITS EXPENDITURE. A meiating of stewards of the Lcvia Racing Club was held on Friday to discuss business arising out ol the transference of the Club's meeting to Trentham for this year. ,Th\e president ,(Mir J. McLea.vey) occupied the chair and there were also present Messrs J. W. Procter, L. G. McDonald, M. Winiata, C. Day, M. Ryder,' E, J. NaSh, F, Nicholson, W. G. Vickers, and G. Bltenkhorn. Apologias for unavoidable absence ,w.er<j received from Messrs T. Bevan and W. Ryder. A letter was received from the Now Zealand Racing Conference drawing aittetntaon t|o Part 2. ,ru\e 7 of the Rules of Racing and asking the Club to place a rule on the Articles of Association that will prevent any pos-
sibility of the Glub becoming a proprietary concern. Tile Levin Chamber of Commerce wrote asking the Club to 1 appoint a deliegajte to attend a meeting to be held on Monday, November 12th, to consider the holding) of a lour days' gala and advertising campaign;. It 'was agreed that the president attend as the Club's representative. TRENTHAM- MEETING. The secretary 'reported that he had received a cheque for £,IOOO from the Wellington Racing Club, being the Lievin Club's share of the profits of the recent meeting held in Trentham. The president said that the success of the meeting in was particularly- gratifying to) the Club. Although he had himself been unable to attend! through illness, he had beien very pleaded to hear what the stewards had said of their treatment by the Wellington Cluby, which had carried out its contract in. the .spirit as well as the letter. Everything had been done to miake them, feel thait it was Levin's meeting in iev_ery sense of/the word, whilst at the same time the treatment meted out to them, convinced them that they were guests;' He would like to .'stress the financial benefit the Club had received from the transference 1 of the meeting. They now had £IOOO to expend in putting the club on a better footing, whilst, had they held the meeting in Levin, it was certain that they would ham been unable to carry out the improvements so urgently needed. He suggested that a committer be set up to bring down..-a - scheme for the expenditure of the money now in hand, opinions being divided) as to whether it was advisable to (expend the whole in improvement to the course, or to reduce in part the Club's liability and so loweir overhead expenses. If this latter schemiei were adopted it would be necessary to obtain the consent of the Minister of Internal Affairs and he would have to be consulted ini the matter before any definite conclusion could be arrived at. The following committee was appointedl to consider the question:— Messrs C. Blenkhorn,, W- Vickers and C. Day?, who will present a report to thiet next meeting of. stewards. ; The money in. hand is to be invested at call for thje time being.
