SCAFFOLDING INSPECTION.
FINE FOIR! TECHNICAL BREACH
Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., presided over the sitting ,of the Magistrate's Court at Palmerston North on Monday. *„ The Inspector of Scaffolding, Mr. G. McKessar, of Wanganui, proceeded against F. Needham, of Palmerston {North, alleging a breach of the, Scaf- | folding Act in that defendant failed { to notify the inspector of his intension to erect a building 24 hours beI fore the wdrk commenced. | Mr. W. A. Ball, for defendant; pleaded not guilty, stating that the scaffolding of the structure in question was less than 2 feet high, and therefore, he submitted, j did not come within the scope of the measure. TJie inspector pointed out that there had been recent additions to the Act, and, having regard to the effect of t|hese, notification should {have been given. / . His Worship entered a conviction and fined defendant £1 and costs 17s. He refused to allow the' inspector further travelling expenses, stating that he saw no reason why people at Palmerston :North should be obliged to pay these 'simply becaus'e the inspector was located as far distant as Wanganui.
