MEETING IN SHANNON. ~.,;■ A meeting was held in the Methodist Church onj Mondlay evening. Mrs Carter presided and introduced I the speaker (Mrs Porter), the organising secretary, who spoke upon the work at home -and abroad, , stating that the Bible Society; circulated, the Scriptures in 560. languages.and. that the "books were soldi not at the price they cost but at the price the poorest could afford to pay. The New Testa, ment, which is sold all oVer China Sfor 2d, cost the Society 6d to produce. Out of every pound! the Socie'hy spends in producing and circulating it "only gets'back 7s. Thel3s is m'ade up 'by voluntary* contributions.The object of .tlhe Society is to give, to every man in the world the Scriptures or. a portion of them in his own mother tongule. ~ .'.,"■•; . The following officers were elected for the ensuing year : President, Mrs Carter; secretary, Mr Miller. 'Mrs McCulloch, the collector, and the secretary undertook to procure more collectors. ' .
