SUGAR-PROFITS.
COLONIAL COMPANY'S POSITION. INTERIM DIVIDEND OP 25/. (Received Thursday, 2 a.m.) , SYDNEY, Oct. 31. At the half-yearly meeting of the Colonial Sugar Refining Company; the usual statements of accounts were not submitted. The omission is attributed to the withdrawal of control of sugar by the Commonwealth and New Zealand Governments, and the acceptance by Queensland of the position held by the Federal authorities, which made it impossible to close the books on September 30. - In addition the winding up of the Fiji company is not yet settled. The Board, nevertheless, decided to make payable forthwith ,an interim dividend of 25/ per share. The report stated that despite the dry weather, the Australian production of sugar ,at the mills, and in Fiji would be near the estimate of May last, and the crops of 1924 would be larger if the weather Avas favourable. The chairman stated that the interim dividend was at the same rate as that of the last halfyear, but as the capital had since, increased, the payments would be 25/ as against 20/ in May last. The amount divisible is thus again • the same as was paid in 1914, before the separation of the companies.
