KOPUTAROA FOOTBALL CLUB BALL.
SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The Koputaroa Football Club’s -first annual ball which was held in the new Koputaroa Hall last evening, was a decided success, and despite the. inclemency of the weather, 'was largely attended, at least 50 couples being present, including visitors from Otaki, Shannon, Levin faind!' Foxfcon, No trouble had been spared! by the Committee to make the event thoroughly successful and 1 their reward was a function which will do much towards building up a reputation for Koputaroa socially and the success of future efforts.
The music, which was supplied by Rikihana’s orchestra, was a feature of the evening, whilst at intervals highly appreciated musical items were rendered by the Maoriland String Band. ‘ •
During an, interval the trophies won by the Koputaroa Junior Football Club during the year were presented to the club by the chairman of the Horowhenua Rugby Union (Mr E. Nash), who in. making the presentation congratulated the club on the splendid achievement, which,, he said, was the more meritorious from, ‘ the fact that the club had! only Been revived that season. On behalf of- the Rugby Union he called on the captain of the team to take over the trophies and trusted that) the team would long maintain the high standard of play which had enabled it to gain them: (Applause). The trophies are the Coley Cup, pre r sented by Mir Geo: Coley, of Foxton, the Junior Competition Banner, presented by Mrs Hugh Hall, and a. beautifully car.ved (miniature Maori War Canoe, presented to the Union by Mr Hjone McMillan amdl -on which ►a name of the winning team for the year is fixed on a silver , plate along the gunwale. ' \ Medals for the best individual players were, presented by, the Miyor of .Levin (Mr T. Hobson.) who expressed the pleasure, the invitation to attend had given to the Mayoress (for whose unavoidable absence he apologised), and himself. As an Old footballer he took the keenest interest in the sport and was always pleased to encourage in any way the national game. He .ctongratulajteck Khe winners of the, medals on the' achievement, but impressed on them the fact that it, was not individual play that made for success in football and that it was always necessary to place the success of the team above individual success. A medal presented, by the president of the club (Mr E. 15, Bell) for the most consistent forward, was won by C. Moody, the medal'for the most ,improved forward presented by Mr A. Woollett was won by C. Dunn, that presented by Mr Hone McMillan' for the best all-roqn'd player was won by R. Pini, and the medal for the most consistent back-presentiedl by Mr Terry; Was .won by P. Hakaraia, *■ ! An excellent" supper was handed round during the evening and thoroughly appreciated. The floor .was in excellent order and dancing was kept up to a late, hour, the evening toeing voted a huge success by all who attended.
