SHANNON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
j The usual fortnightly meeting of the 'Borough Council wa.s held on Tuesday evening. Present: The Mayor ahd Crs. Carter, Gunning, Murray, Hyde, Beard, Butt and Gardner. COBRESPONDENCE, From J. i). Forno (Shannon) and F. G. Reid (Petone) forwarding quotation for supplying dog collars.—Mr Forno’s tender; was accepted. From, Clerk, Horowhenua County Council notifying the; Council they were calling a further conference of .local bodies, interested in the Shannon bridge for Wednesday, 7th November, at 2 pan., in the Council Chambers, Shannon, and asking the Council to be represented.—. Agreed that the. Council be represented. Mr R. Bishop, secretary of the Shannon Cricket Club, wrote asking the Council for a good load of sand or fine gravel at each end of the concrete wicket,'as it was badly needed the ground being in a terrible state at present—Granted. ' OVERSEER'S REPORT. 1 The Overseer reported that the staff have carted 1 42 yards of metal and patched 'the following streets: Grey, Vogel and .East roads; also Clapham St. and through cutting in front of Richardson, also put in part of new culvert at crossing, of East road and Clapham St. and have been employed by the Borough Engineer forone day.
DELAY IN WORK. Dissatisfaction was expressed atthe delay of; the Engineer in carrying out the work: of kerbing theplots and securing the timber for the bridge over Stan sell's ' drain. The Mayor said that in regard to procuring the timber the Engineer had been bound down by the Council, to £3O and he had to get a special quote and as a. result he had been, held up. Cr. Hyde said if the Engineer could not, do the work for the' money why didn’t he inform, the Council. Gr. Beard said he did not want to kick, anyone-, but he wanted to see the -job done. The Engineer had’ordered the timber a month ago and he would like to know what he had been doing in the meantime. As long as the speaker was on the Council he was going to fight to get work done.
It was then resolved: on the motion of Cr. Hyde, seconded by Cr. Curran .* “That when the, Council passes ai resolution the Engineer must carry it out, otherwise he must notify the Council. Also that in future' the Engineer furnish ’a report at each Council meeting giving full'details of all work in hand.” GENERAL. It was decided that a ' letter be written to the Health Officer pointing out that a slaughterhouse is polluting the stream! from which it is proposed to take the water supply. The Council wish to 'be assured that the water will be fit for >uise when the works are ready. . A special' nleeting of the Council will be: held on November Bth to consider tenders for the reservoir.
