QUEEN CARNIVAL.

GYMNASTIC DISPLAY AND CONCERT

At the Maoriland Theatre on Friday evening a-gymnastic display.and concert Avas given in aid of the Sports Queen, there being •» fair attendance. Those' present were, given a fine display of gymnastics by the hoys of the Levin Y.M.C.A. under their instructors, Messrs Walker .and Williams. It consisted of exhibitions on the parallel bars, vaulting horsef, horizontal bar, j Roman rings, and matwork and pyramids, in all of which the boys made ai most creditable showing, the turns being highly .appreciated hy the audience. , Their whole performance re-1 fleets much credit on the instrucors. A fine concert programme was given, and as, an indication of how well the vocalists were received it may be stated 'each one received an encore. The following was the programme, interspersed with gymnastic exhibitions: Opening piano selection, Mr s - Freeman,- vocal solo, Mr Bishop; tenor solo. "Because," by request. Mr A. Mottershead; solo, Mrs Hall; song and chorus, "On the Road," Mr H. Andrew ; .baritone solo., "Youth," Mr J. D. Aitken; tenor solo, "I-passed by your window," Mr A. Mottershead; solo, "Collinette," Mrs Davey, arid for an encore ia duet with Mrs Hall "Rose of My Heart." The whole programme was an excellent one, each of the singers being in fine voice and it was a great pity they Were not favoured with a larger attendance.

We understand a bazaar is to be held by one of the queen, committees on the concluding day of the queen carnival.

The Farmers' Queen Committee announces the result of the guessing competition of the number of buttons, in a bottle (for suit length). The total was 149, Messrs S. Steer and S. Cording guessing the correct number. A monster bazaar- and baby show will be held by the committee of the Farmers''- Queen in the Druids'. Hall on November 10th, when there will be a big display of goods of .all descriptions, and games, competitions and s.ide-shows in galore. The bazaar will he afternoon 'and evening!, a speciial attraction in the afternoon being the baby show. Arrangements have also been made for the Foxton band to he ini attendance.

The secretary of the Sports Queen announces the result of the number of peas in bottle for the suit ca,se as 802, the winner being Mrs G. Piatton with 801.

The Sports Queen Committee intend holding a dance in the Parish Hall on Saturday evening next.
