HOROWHENUA COUNTY PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.
A meeting of the Executive of .(he Horowhenua County Patriotic Society was held in the office of the secretary (Mr F. P. Walkley) on Wednesday Mr \v. Goldsmith occupying the.cna.ir. CORRESPONDENCE. The War Relief Association of Wellington wrote asking lor a refund oi £6 granted to a soldier who was i-ioruwnenua’s liability—Approved.. A returned soldier asked for assistance towards the purchase of a separator—The secretary was instructed to write to the effect that the application was declined on the grounds that from enquiries made it did not appeair that there was necessity for the expenditure which would not benefit the applicant. As applicant’s wife was reported to he ill, it was decided that the case be kept in view with the object of rendering assistance in this connection.
The Wellington War Relief Association forwarded receipt for £4 5s on account of a refund, of .money made by Horowhenua against assistance given to an exsoldier who was their responsibility. In the case of an application made by an ex-soldier for a grant with which to purchase stores for his family, arrangement,s were made with a firm of grocers to supply the family’s requirements.
Application was received for a loan of £IOO for the purpose of paying off a second mortgage. —It was decided to deter the matter to permit of the applicant finding guarantors for the amount.
Application was received for a loan of £IOO to enable a returned man, Who was about to be married, to buy furniture and set up in poultry-farm-ing.—The secretary stated that this was a very deserving case- and ..no difficulty would be found in getting guarantors.—lt was pointed out that as the nian was suffering from; illhealth and other disabilities it seemed to be doubtful if he, could make a gi'esjt success of, the business of poul-try-fanning.—lt was decided -that the grant for furniture, £50,. be made, the other, to be deferred for further enquiry- - . A' cheque- for £ls instalment on loan, was received.
The Wellington War Relief Association was instructed to pay £2 in. respect of rent for a returned man, who was J-lorowhenua’s liability. A letter was received in respect of arrears of a loan, a promise being made to pay off same at an . early date.
A cheque was received for the sum of £2B 7s 6d interest and instalment of principal. r The amount of £6 10s was received, being instalment on loan. An application was received for a loan of £IOO for the purpose or purchasing an interest in a business, guarantees for repayment being sup-' plied.—lt was decided that as the business which applicant wished to buy into was of such a' character that £IOO would not give him a reasonable partnership in it, the -application be held over- for further inquiry a,s to the basis of the -partnership. . A hearty vote of thanks to the chair concluded the business of the meeting ___
