LEVIN RACING CLUB’S MEETING.

TO BE HELD AT TRENTHAM. Arrangements have been completed with the Wellington Racing Club, to hold the next meeting of the Levin Racing Club at Trentham, on Tuesday, October 23rd. in conjunction wilth the Wellington .Club’s Spring meeting. The meeting! will be held , as a third day to the Wellington fixture, which will be run on Saturday and Monday, Levin following on Tuesday -as before stated. This move was necessitated by the unsatisfactory state of the club’s finances. Last year, although a splendid day was experienced, the meeting barely paid expenses. It AVas felt that should a Avet day tor the coining meeting eventuate, the Club would suffer such a loss that it would be unable to carry on. Besides this, sev- : eral urgent improvements are necessary to the grounds, and even under the best conditions there did not appear to be any chance of obtaining the requisite funds Avhilst. the ofiedhy meeting avus held in Levin. Under the circumstances the. present arrangement AA'as thought advisable, if. ~ v being hoped that a sufficient surplus would be realised, and the club put on such a footing that it Avould be enabled to carry on until a tAvo-day meeting! could he obtained.. In connection with the transfer the stakes have been increased to £2OOO to bring them more into line Avith those of the metropolitan clulv the biggest race, the Levin Cup, being now worth £SOO. Special train arrangements are v being made, and it is hoped that the venture- Avill meet with the success which is anticipated.
