THE QUEEN CARNIVAL.
At a .meeting of the Executive on Wednesday afternoon there was a full
attendance. The Mayor (Mr Murdoch) presiding.
It was decided that in the event of two queens tieing, that these two should carry on for a further three days. in respect to the finish of the carnival, on the motion of Mr Burns it was decided, that the last Thursday in November be the closing date and that all moneys be paid in to the Executive secretary by 10 a.in. on the following morning. Also that the coronation of the successful queen take place on the first Friday evening in December at the Druids’ Hall, when a concert wii be held. In future, the position of the Queens will be made public every Tuesday and Saturday morning by the hoisting of the flags on the Club Hotel. Mr G. Mitchell suggested to the meeting that the various comn#tees confine their efforts to street collecting and badge selling in the town on Saturdays only, as at present it was a big drain on the business people a.nd they were already getting full up of it and he thought they would probably get more money if they dH not call on them so- frequently. The opinion of the meeting was that 1 would. be difficult for the Executive to commence placing restrictions on the collecting and that, it be left to the committees to use their discretion in the matter. It was unanimously decided that all contents in bottles'for guessing competitions be filled and sealed‘by the secretary, Mr J. T. Bo vis, and each bottle bear the secretary’s signature. Collecting boxes are also to he labelled by the secretary. Judging by the number of enquiries for tickets for the plain and fancy dress ball to be held on Friday evening there is going to be a big attendance and quite a number intend coming from Palmerston North and Levin, so if the committee of the Fibre Queen are favoured with a fine nigh* their efforts should be well rewarded.
On Saturday afternoon a hockey match will be played on the Recreation Ground between Maoris in full war attire and a team from Man gore. This match will be played with primitive weapons and will be hockey as she ought to be played. Before pro_ceeding to the ground the Maoris will give a haka in, front of the Club Hotel.
