QUEEN CARNIVAL.
A meeting of the Executive of the Queen Carnival was held on Tuesday evening at which the Mayor presided.
Reports from the various committees received showed that good progress was being miade. The secretary (Mr J. T. Bovis) and Mr W. Quajrrie were appointed to arrange for hoisting the various flags so that the position of ithe Queens will be made known to the public each Saturday morning.
Thie Mayor reported he is in communication with the Minister of Internal Affairs for permission to conduct art unions, ietc. He was also endeavouring to procure a number of sealed collection boxes to be used for collecting for the various Queens. It was unanimously resolved that in view of the School Carnival Which is being held on the 12th and 13th October thaiti the activities of the various committees will cease operations from the 7th to the 13th October, both days inclusive and the committees will give their whole-hearted support towards assisting the school carnival.
Crs. Beard, Butt and Curran were elected as members of the Executive. The open. a,ir concerts inaugurated by the Fibre Queen Committee will be carried on to-morrow night (Saturday) in addition to the concert ,a boxing bout, toy the celebrated Steer Bros., the world renowned, up-to-date, unbeaten champions. These boys are pupils of Mr C. Young. _ The following prizes will be given at the Fibre Queen’s plain and fancy dress ball Trophies valued at oneguiinea for ladies’ best fancy ' dress, ladies’ most original, gents’ best dress and' gents’ original. , . I The public of Shannon are reminded 'of the gala day at the Recreation Grounds to-morrow afternoon, which has been organised, on behalf of the various Queens. ’A fancy dress football match will tahe place between the min branch and Shannon branch of flacxworkers, The Miranui and Wihitanui men will arrive by motor cars and the mien will then assemble at Mr McKegg’s Hotel and march to the Recreation. Ground. A good afternoon's sport is promised.
