SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the School Committee was held last evening. Present: The chairman (Mr Murray) and Messrs G. P, Anderson, Watkins, Warrington, Hudson, Watiterston, S. Anderson and the secretary (Mr Carlyle).

A letter was received from the Education Picture Co., New Zealand, asking for the support of the committee in respect to the company exhibiting picttu(res of an educational nature in Shannon, as part of the school syllabus. . It is proposed to show the films once a month at a charge of 6d per child. Correspondence was also received from the Education Department supporting the request.—The: members were unanimous in approving of the scheme, being of opinion that the most, beneficial results would be attained. Mr G. P. Anderson drew attention to the fact that a recommendation had beten made by the Chamber of Commerce to the Borough Council asking! that provision he madie for a swimming pool when the banks are being formed along the Ota.uru stream. He said he would like to see one at the school as then the children could be taught the art of swimming under proper supervision. He then moved the following resolution to be forwarded to the Borough Council which received the full support of the committed. '“That this meeting is keenly interested in the proposal to establish a swimming pool in Shannon and that if possible they be /erected near the school, where the children can be under supervision. Whatever scheine is decided on the committee will be pleasied; to act in concert.’ }

On the motion of the chairman (Mr Murray) it was doecided to ask Mr Harkness, member for the district on the Wellington Education Board to urg(e. for (the appointment of more male teachers on the staff of tine local school.

The chairman reported that good progress was being made with the School Queen Carnival. He reported that the committee of >t,he Queen Carnival had decided to adjourn, operations from the 7th to 13th October, and assist, the. School Carnival jn thieir final effort.—Thie action of the: committee in showing such good feeling was much appreciated by, the Committee.
