THE QUEEN CARNIVAL.

CAMPAIGN COMMENCES,

The committees of the various queens opened their campaign on Saturday morning to raise lunds for the purpose of carrying out improvements to the Recreation Ground. During' the day workers Tor ail parties were busily engaged disposing of badges, and collecting, while in the evenings, the Fibre Queen’s supporters gave an open-air -concert. Good results are reported by ail the committees for the -opening day. On Thursday evening next the four queens, iMis»e.s Greedy (Fibre), E. Easton (Farmers’), L.'ivohika (Maori), and E. King (Sports) will be introduced to the public at the Maori -concert' to bp held in 'he Maoriland Theatre

A committee meeting of the Fibre Queen-’s -supporters will be held in the Council Chambers to-morrow evening. Ail ladies interested are cordially invited to attend. A gala day has (been arranged for Saturday next by the Fibre Queen Committee, when a fancy dress footnail match will take place between teams from tbe Mill branch and Shan-a-on branch. The same committee also intend fielding a grand plain and fancy dress ban in Ihe Druids Hall on Friday, September 21. The committee of the Maori Queen thank Mr C. C. Franks for tbe "use -of his motor lorry while the campaign is on.
