CONCRETE SLABS.
COUNCIL TO MANUFACTURE
Cr. Gunning’s notice of motion to rescind the resolution to purchase moulds for making concrete slabs came before the Borough Council on Tuesday night. lie stated he was opposed m the Council manufacturing their own, concrete slabs as he did not consider it would he a payable proposition. He referred to Masterton where, from figures he had obtained, lie found the cost was 2s, which was too high. The Mayor did not agree with Cr. Gunning. He thought his estimate of the cost, to manuiacture was wrong and he felt sure they could he turned out for t 5. He stated the Council would have to consider making its own concrete blocks as asphalting would increase in cost with the coming into existence of electricity. The slabs would never be wasted and he thought the Road Committee should go on with the oxperimrnt and the money would be well spent. On being put. to the meeting the motion was defeated, only the mover voting for it.
