CONTRACTS COMMITTEE’S REPORT

The committee consisting of the chairman, Messrs Brown and Matheson, the Engineer and secretary, met on the 10th August, 1923, and dealt with the tenders under consideration :

No. 9: Section I—Hard-drawn triple braided wire; Section 2—Hard-drawn (500 Megohm grade wire. There was good competition and after careful comparisons, and consideration, it was decided to accept the tender of Tolley and! Son for the sum of £6159 10s lor- .section 1, and £377 9s for section 2. Price based on copper bars at £73 ss, or any less rate if it could be obtained; also less one per cent. if 70 per cent, is paid against documents in London. It was resolved that the Engineer should have authority ■to carry or increase the quantities if required, at schedule rates.

No. 11: Street lighting equipment— Tenders accepted:— From National Electrical and Engineering .Go., Ltd.: Section 1, constant current regulators at £SI 10s; section 2, lamps, 250 c.p. 7/-; 100, 80 and 60 c.p. 3/4; fittings, suspension, either at £2 Is 6d or at £2 5s 3d whichever sample is approved; fittings, brackets. £2 5s or £2 7s 6d, wliidhever is approved on inspection. From Turnbull and Jones, Ltd.— Lightning arresters, type G, 6 at £2 6s 3d (the foregoing based on four dollars to the £1). Froth A. and T. Burt, Ltd.—Seven Anderson time switches at £l9 15s. The engineer suggested that those boroughs taking a large number of lamps for street lighting should be offered special facilities in the way of increased candle-power in certain localities at the same uniform rate. It was decided to bring the matterbefore the Board. Contract No. 8, bare copper wire.— Information was received that electrical copper bars had fallen to £7l 15s, and it was decided to place the balance of the. contract, 54 tons, with the contractors, Messrs P. R. Bailhc and Co. on the basis above stated.
