RECREATION GROUND
EXTENSION OF BOUNDARIES
At a meeting of the Borough Council some tim,e algo it was decided to raise no objection to the Sports Bodies extending the boundaries of the Recreation Ground «even feet all around. Cr. Carter, at the last meeting. of the Council, gave notice of motion tto have this resolution reserved. Owing to illness Cr. Carter wias unable to be present to further his. notice of motion. When the matter camel before the Council on Tuesday night, the Mayor said he did not favour the notice of motion as he did not consider the extension of the .boundaries would cause any harm and the ground certainly needed enlarging. He thought the sports bodies’ request iai reasonable one and he did not think! the width of land asked lor would ever ho needed. ‘ Cr. Gunning: Already the boundary has been moved out 22rjft on each side. He said they would find when the time came for putting in the electric poles-there would be an ugly end one way or the other in title street. He did not approve of any further encroachment on to the road. On Ballance street and the south end it certainly should not, go out. Cr. Beard said that in conversation with Mr Greedy, representing the • Athletic Club, the latter had stated: the extension was most essential; as otherwise it was impossible to make an. oval and a playing ground. Cr. Gunning said there were lots of people who objected hi the trees being removed. , ~ Cr. Curran said the hedge would not grow, unless the trees are reprieved *On being put to the meeting the motion was defeated.
