QUEEN CARNIVAL.
On Thursday night a -meeting of committees of the various queen urganistions Was held in the Council Cn&inbera. Mr J. Beard presiding. Mr C. Day. the organiser, was p result and gave a plan of outline ot campaign, also giving many vauiaable hints m connection with the running of the carnival. It was decided that the opening day of the carnival be Saturday, September 7th, when a conceit win be held at which the various candidates will be introduced to the public and two representatives oi each candidate will be allowed to address Hie meeting on behalf of their respective queens. The campaign will" be extended over a period of live weeks, closing October 13th at midnight. The final effort is to take tjae lorm oi a monster bazaar to be held on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday oi the last week, and the Friday following the closing down day is to be sot apart for the coronation' ot the queen and raising to the peerage of high officials, etc. 'During the progress of the campaign progress announcements will be advertised in the "ISews" on Tuesdays and Fridays, and also signalled by flags from a prominent position hi the town. The secretary oi each queen to send in all results to the carnival secretary by 6 pTn. on Mondays and Thursdays. A committee was set up to'draw up a concert programme for the opening night. The next executive meeting is to he held on Thursday, August 30th, each representative in the meantime to form his committee and report at that meeting his delegates, queen and programme.
