WERAROA v. ROVERS.
This was an even and at times, exciting game, especially in the second gpell. Rovers, opening with the sun in their eyes were considerably hampered, and put up an indifferent showing in the first half. On the changeover Rovers got their own back, and harassed the Weraroa tfeam in slashing .style. The first spell was a series of scrambles and individual back-play, neither side showing much combination. The Rovers playing with the sun in their eyes had some excuse for their indifferent showing, and had it not been for the good defence put up l by Stoker and Modlison, a number of tries would (have been registered against thleim. Weraroa led up with a forward rush which, ended in Royers forcing. A nice passing rush between Bull, Joyce and Green, ended in the latter scoring. No goal resulted. Th|e| spell ended without further incident. Weraroa 3, Rovers 0. 'From the kick-out, Rovers were more on their mettle, their forwards headed by Wildsmitli, Williamson and Weal, keeping Weraroa busily defending. The backs were now throwing <the ball about freely and from a nice passing rulsh started by Phillips, in which all of the Rovers’ backs took part, Short scored a good try, the kick failing. Laing, Mollison and Stoker were now doing good work, and kept up a strong attack on Weraroa, Short scoring again after a good passing rush. Phillips added the extra points. Good defensiye work by Bull and Joyce saved Weraroa from further scores and the/ game ended Rovers 8, Werairoa 3.
