KOPUTAROA 8 v. SHANNON 3. From a spectator’s point of view this game was very uninteresting to waltch, the players 'being greatly hampered by thei heavy state, of the) ground, which had the effect of taking a lot out of them. shannon were unlucky to lose, ias they had the advantage practically throughout the game* th|e! winning try, which was converted, being brought about through Barber, the full-back, badly mauling the ball on the line from a dribbling rush. The game opened with Shannon defending the northern goal. Aftlem a lot of kicking up and down the field Koputaroa, forwards carried play inside Shannon 25, where from a scramble near the line R. McDonald' secured possession and drew first blood! for Koputaroa. Nepia failed with the kick. Shannon now livened up and soon had Koputaroa defending their line, but the latter’s defence could not be penetrated and half-time went with no further score. On resuming Koputaroa took a turn at attack but it was only momentarily. Shannon half, getting the ball from the. scrum, sent it out to the hacks and a fine passing rush carried play well into Koputaroa’s 25, where play remained for a time. The Koputaroa forwards by. a dribbling rush eventually carried play to the other end of the field where from, a scrum Moody with the ball a.t his toe took it over the line, Barber, the full-back making a bad miss. T. McDonald took the kick and added the extra points. The Reds now got busy and by a series of passing rushes again had Koputaroa on the defensive, D. Fitzgerald eventually scoring near the posts, Buckman failed to add the major points. From now on until the coll of time Shannon had Koputaroa pressed, but failed to increase their score. Mr Randall controlled the game.
