TRIBUTE TO' THE LATE, MR SIMCOX

Before commencing the ordinary business of the County Council on Saturday, the chairman « (Cr. (?. A. Monk) mentioned the loss tQ the district occasioned by the death of Mr W. H. Simcox, who had passed away since last meeting. “Possibly,” Cr. Monk said, “many of-those present, did not know Mr Simcox personally, but he was a man who had done a lot in County affairs. He belonged to those days of the Council when there were no motor cars,-and men had to ride along the .beach to get to meetings. He. was one of the old pioneer stock who had -come out from the Old Country when this country Was in its primitive state, and one of the things that most of those present had: to be proud of wa.s that they were descended from such stock. Mr Simcox was. one of the first chairmen of the Council and h«l the office, again from 1899 to 1901. He was also a member of the old Ota/ki Road Board and chairman of that, Board. He would like that a vote of sympathy be tendered to the widow and family of the | deceased gentleman, and he moved in this direction. Cr. Broadhelt seconded this. He. had 'not known Mr Simcox personally but his work was well-known to everyone connoted with the Council. [ Cr. Catley said that as one who had J known Mr Simcox personally, having , been a neighbour of his for some | time, he would like to speak in favour |of the motion. He was a .man who } had dona good work for the County 1 and was amongst the men who had carried on a good work under great difflcultes.
