RECREATION GROUNDS.
SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENTS
On Wednesday evening a committee representing the sports bodies, ratepayers and public met the Reserves Committee to draw up a list of improvements required at the Recreation Grounds, also to receive suggestions in respect to raising money to carry out same.
At a previous meting it had been decided that a committee be appointed to consist of eight members, two representing sports bodies, one ratepayers, one the .public and the three representatives of, the Reserves Committee. Mr Beard occupied the chair.
On opening the meeting Mr Beard said the Borough Council wished to know who the Reserves Committee represented. The Council represented the ratepayers and public but as representatives outside the Council had been appointed to the committee, they wished, to know Where they stood in the matter. Cr. Curran: The Council are in favour of improvements, being made and I don’t think the Council would object to the committee having control .of money.. J . Mr Morgan: Do I understand the Council consider the Ratepayers’ Association have no right to be represented.
Cr. Beard: The Council cannot see where they come in. Mr Morgan : The committee set up is willing to assist the Council and we are o-ut to raise money. As far as we are concerned the committee must

Butt: It appears we are not on the committee because we represent the public, but because the Council have control of the ground. Mr Morgan: We fully "realise the committee • can Ido nothing without permission from the Borough Council. Cr. Beard: The Council want it to be quite clear that anything done must halve sanction of the Council.
Mr Morgan : We fully realise that. But if we have representatives of the Council on the committee you can advise us.
Finally the meeting came to an understanding, the committee being agreed to. - The following list of improvements suggested will be forwarded to the Borough Council at its next meeting for approval: Draining, levelling and laying down in suitable grasses; hedge to be planted around ground, large trees to be lopped; the trees to- be removed when hedge has grown sufficiently high; erection of swings, seesaws, etc., for children; seats for the public, pavilion to be shifted to where committee think fit, erection of public conveniences, gates, laying down of / cycle track and cricket pitch, fence around oval, post and rails painted white; that all the trees be cut out on the western end of the ground and a paling fence to be erected, work to be done as soon as funds are available. k . As a means for raising money to carry out the work it was suggested holding a Queen Carnival to end about November. It was decided that Mr Morgan get in communication with persons who had had experience in running a carnival with a view to obtaining information. 7
