ROYAL FAMILY DISCUSSED.
LABOUR CONFERENCE REJECTS MOTION. TO DISPENSE WITH? CROWN; (Received Sunday, 7 p.m.) ■ LONDON, June 30. Mr Lansbury, in opposing on behalf of the executive a motion at the Labour Conferencee, declaring that the Royal Family was no longer necessary • as a part of the British Constitution, said: “I am a Republican and always advocated Republicanism, but the executive is strohgly divided on the subject. Anyhow, why should we'fool about a question Of no earthly importance, which will settle itself? I used to think the monarchy and nobility were people who kept the workers poor, but now I realise it is the capitalist system. I have sat at the same table with a Prince and the Queen and have sat -behind two of the Princes at football matches. Take it from me, r they are just ordinary clay, like anyone else. They talk as you do, only a , little worse. When you get a social revolution, the question of the kings and queens or presidents will settle itself. At present all the Labour Commoners have taken the oath to the King and Constitution as by laW established.” The motion was rejected by an overwhelming majority.
