(From Our Own Correspondent). The children’s fancy dress'ball which was held on Friday night, proved a great success. The Hall was. gaily decorated with balloons and ribbons, and the costumes of the many children added 'a vivid touch of :colour. Prizes were very fairly ' ia,war<led to the two best costume wearers, “Master Bia,y Todd: as “Puss-in-Boots.-” and Miss Connie Jamesoh ais ‘‘An Octopus.” Next came prizes for the-most original costi7im.es. These were awarded to Miss Phyllis Morgan 'and Master Mervyn - Phillip—Who represented ‘‘Adami arid Eve.” Yet a third prize for economy won by Miss Dorothy Webb, as al ka'poc "bag and Master Eric Pope,: 'as a motor-man, was a popular award. The costumes were many and varied. Mrs Phillips presided at the piano till the arrival, from Palmerston North, of Smith’s orchestra, The'children danced from, seven
till nine, then were regaled with supper, AVhile the “grown-ups” prepared to dance the remaining pan'of the evening away. The entertainment terminated at one o’clock, and great credit is dug to the ladies who practically gave up'.the Whole. evening to ensure its success. Mr Perry proved, as usual, a very efficient M.C. The erection of the poles in connection with flie Mangahaio scheme is proceeding atpaice,’ and the linesmen will shortly; be ‘ shifting camp to Linton; •’

The glairy flalctory is just now the scene of much activity, and efforts are being unaide to beautify the surroundings.
