MR HANSMANN’S PEDIGREES.
Last week, on behalf of Mr F. A. Hansmann, of “Awatane,” Weraro , Levin, who is giving up breeding, Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., offered for sale the whole of his wellknown herd of pedigree Jersey cattle, ail of which were disposed of, under keen competition. . The stock was yarded in excellent condition, Svhiist the quality was equal to 'anything offered in this district, some of the best strains in the country being represented. The foundation stock of the herd was purchased. from Mr A. H. Halcombe, of Urenui, Taranaki, one of the oldest-estab-lished breeders in the Dominion. The herd sire “Rawhiti’s -Good Spec,” traces back to some of the finest stock bred by the well-known breeder, Mr H. E. B. Watson, of Tai Tapu, Canterbury. Buyers' were present from all parts of the country, and whilst most of the stock remained in the district, lots went to Taranaki, Nelson, Hunterville, etc. An indication of the quality is given in the average prices obtained, viz., 59| guineas for co.ws, and 291 guineas for yearling heifers. Mr C. Day was auctioneer, assisted by Mr C. E. Robertson, manager of the Stud Stock Department of Wright, son and Co. Details are as follow cows. _ Awatane’s Lady.
