RUGBY REFEREES MEET.

The weekly meeting of the Horowhenua Referees’ Association .was held in Mr Bebbington’s rooms on Saturday*night, Mr J. O’Connor presiding. There were also present Messrs Procter, Rose, Karauti, Sciascia, Burrows, Casey, E. Bevan, Wehipeihana, and Seymour. On taking the chair, Mr O’Connor thanked the members for re-elte.cting him for a further term. It had been his intention to relinquish office this year, but on seeing the stalwart friends of last year’s Association still carrying on, he considered he would he ungrateful if he did not again help in furtherance of the game. It was moved by the chairman, seconded by Mr Karauti, that the HoroWhenua Rugby Union be asked 1 to delegate thie power of appointing referees to the Association.—Carried. • In accordance with notice of motion given at the last meeting, it Was decided that the day of meeting be changed from Saturday to- Tuesday, the next meeting .to be held on June 5.

The chairman intimated that to facilitate the business of the meetings and to enable refereies to bring concerted and definite opinions to bear on difficult problems, it was necessary to follow a different plan in discussion from that adopted in other years. He stressed the necessity of strict rulings by all members. At the meeting of the N.Z.R.U., the consensus of opinion was that New Zealand lost “the ashes’’ last s'eason, owing to the team’s inability to adjust its game to rulings of the referees in regard to the wing-forward. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Karauti, Tt was decided that seven days’ notice of motion 'he given by any member who wishes to have a knotty question discussed. The following members handed in their subscriptions Messrs Burrows, Karauti, Sciascia, Baker, Rose, Seymour and Wehipeibana. The following new members were elected Messrs Baker (Otaki). White (Levin) and Ellers Foxton). The meeting then went on to- discuss problems connected with the game, and concluded with 'a hearty vote of thanks to the chair and to Mr Bebbington for the use of his room.
