SHANNON ATHLETIC CLUB.
A general committee meeting of the j above Club was held in the Council Chambers last evening. The President | (Mr 3- T. Bovis) presiding. i 1 The President on opening the meet-; inc said he wished, to thank the com- , mfltee and all others who had worked so hard to bring about the success of the redent meeting and he hoped It would be the forerunner of many ! similar gatherings in Shannon. The statement of accounts to be presented i was a credit, to Shannon, and he lefi I sure it would be an eye-opener to ; other clubs. He did not wish to individualise, but felt a vote of thanks should be passed to the secretary, as the bulk of the work had fallen on his shoulder*, and he had carried out his work in a most- efficient manner. Carried by acclamation. The secretary then presented his report, in regard to Ihe meeting just held which showed that the approximate total receipts were £lB7 Is hi, the liabilities being £125 Os Bd, leaving a credit balance of £62 Os Sd; which the committee considered highly satisfactory. . , The president then said he would like- to hear discussion on the state oi the Recreation Ground. It the Clou wish to maintain and increase the sport, a lot of improvement,s were necessary and he suggested that a strong committee should be set up to deal with the question of latrines, track, fences and facilities. Alter a lengthy discussion Mr Sinclair moved that the Club contribute £5 providing other sports clubs do likewise and the Borough Council give £ for £ to tile drain the Recreation Grounds.
Mi* Downes (moved as, an amendment that a committee be formed to meet representatives from all other sports bodies and discuss the various matters, and afterward to meet the Reserve Committee, with, power to ac' in the best interests of the Club. The amendment wa& carried and the following committee was set up: Messrs Downes, McDonald, Greedy and Young. If arrangements can be made it was decided to hold the next meeting on Labour Day and another in February. A vote of thanks was passed to the following, who had given trophies and helped financially. Curran, A. McPherson, T. Datzell, T. Warrington, G. Quarrie, Shannon Butchery Co. Trophies were presented by Messrs H. Hook, A. De Luen, J. V. Burns, W. H. Gunning, J. H. Fargher, J. Roach, J. crowtber and H. L. Young. It was decided that th© Club bold a plain and fancy dress ball on .Tune 8.
