OTAKI “A” WINS HALL’S SHIELD

AN EXCITING GAME,

Tlie lijinl of tlio Horowlienua Cricket Championship for the Hall Shield was played at Levin on Saturday between Otaki “A” and Shannon. The match was very interesting and exciting, and Otaki “A” secured a well-earned victory by the narrow margin of 12 runs. Atrnore captained the Otaki team and winning the toss decided to bat. The first wicket fell Avitk the second ball, but Sim cox and .Atmorc played stubbornly and took the score to 23 before Atmorc was bowled by Morgan. Sievers followed, and batting confidently, compiled 21 in line style before he was caught oil a rising ball. The remainder of the team, with the exception of Baker (9), found Morgan, Shannon’s bowler, too deadly and the side was dismissed for 64 runs.

Shannon commenced well and with two wickets down for 34 looked as if they couldn’t lose, but "the Otaki bowling and fielding was not to be denied and the remaining eight wickets could make only 18 amongst them. The whole side was dismissed for 52. Intense excitement prevailed towards the cud as Otaki’s chances brightened, and the team was heartily applauded for their well-earned victory. Sievers secured the bowling' honours and bowled throughout securing six for 25, Kearns two for 11, and Atmorc one for fourteen. Otaki’s fielding was first-class; all chances were accepted, Baker, Atmore, Relma, and Marshall taking difficult catches.
