The reduction to half-price of fares for children under 16 years travelling on the New Zealand railways ayus urged in a letter to the Prime Minister from the Swanson Auckland ratepayers’ Association, Avhicli the council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce was requested to support. “It is a well known fact that children between 12 and 16 arc at the most expensive age for parents,” stated the secretary of the association, “and 1 feel convinced that the reduction would meet with universal approval throughout the Dominion. Apprentices, cadets, etc., are not allowed to Avork until they are 16 years of age. If the reduction were made family travelling would greatly increase, and I feel sure it would assist in no small measure to encourage parents to live iiv tlio outeafc suburbs. ” —The request was endorsed.
