MANGAHAO NOTES.
* ' WINTRY CONDITIONS PREVAIL. PROGRESS OF THE TUNNELS The wintry conditions which prevailed during the week-end, reached r.tieir climax on Monday morning, when the cold snap on Sunday was followed by a fall of snow. Arapeti Camp and the Top Camp received a considerable coating, a depth of about four inches having been reported from the: latter place. The weather now is cold, but fine and bright with slight frosts.
A social was held in the Y.M.C.A. in the district and seem to- hie fairly plentiful. Several fine: heads have been seen and there is every indication that some good .sport awaits the coming of the stalkers. A social was held i nthe Y.M.C.A. Hut at Arapeti on Saturday, April 7. and arrangements are being made for another to he held early in May. Tow Phillip, one of the workmen at the. top camp, had the misfortune to break a blood vessel on Monday last. He was removed to the Shannon Hospital. Good progress is being made in the No. 2 Tunnel and at the .present rate, it should not be Jong before its piercing is announced. The concreting of No. 1 Tunnel i-s proceeding.
