SHANNON ATHLETIC CLUB.
THE COMING SPORTS. A general meeting of the Shannon Athletic Club w-ais held in the Council Chambers on. Friday evening for the purpose of making further arrangements for the forthcoming meeting to be held on the Recreation Grounds on Saturday, April 28. A large number of members attended, the president, Mr J. T'. Bovis, presiding. The Secretary reported that he had received replies from the Levin and Otaki bands as to their terms for supplying the music.—lt was decided to leave the engaging of a band in the hands of the Chairman and Secretary.
. The Secretary of the Druids’ Lodge wrote offering to hire shooting gallery to Club for their fixture.—Accepted.
The following conditions were received from Mr Seifert for the trophies given by him for the flax events: —
; Bundle-making.—T'o be judged on neatest bundles tied in quickest time, each competitor making five bundles. First prize £3 3/, secohd £2 2/.
Paddocking competition (for ’ paddocking complete). Paddockers. to spread a given number of hanks, turn them, hank, then split sufficient bands to tie up bundles, tie and throw bundles into a, heap ready for dray, the whole process to be gone through without stopping. Prize® will be given for the best work throughout, also time will be taken into consideration, that is best work and time. Points will be awarded for work in various departments. First prize £3 3/, second £2 2/. Mr H. Greedy was appointed judge. On the motion of Mr Logan it was decided that a ground committee be set up to organise the work to be carried out, the following being appointed a committee: Messrs Downes, Young, G. Wood, Bishop, Logan,.Greedy and Satherley. It was unanimously decided that the tug-of-w'ar conditions be altered to read from standing to sitting on battens and that the alteration be advertised in the local papers.
On the motion of Mr H. Hook it was decided to ask the Mayor to invite the business people of Shannon to close their premises from noon until 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, the day of the Club’s first fixture.
The following officials' were appointed: Wood-chopping, V. Croon handicapper; time-keepers, H. Hook and G. Haycock; judges, R. Hayes and J. Holden; marksmen (cycling events) Messrs T. Logan, h. Seifert, and Grimstone; lap steward, Mr G- Woods; blackboard steward, Mr Morgan; press steward, Mr Hudson; ground steward, Mr Steer; property steward, Mr Laurvig; gatekeepers, Messrs Sinclair, McDonald, Gray, Perivans, and Bishop; shooting -gallery, Messrs Burns and Tfurau.
Messrs T. Stubbs and T. Watson wrote accepting the- position,® of handicapper and starter respectively.
A letter wiais received from the Shannon Borough Council .asking the Club send two N delegates to attend a public meeting re Soldiers’ Memorial on April 12, with power to act.—On the i motion of ’Mr Murdoch it was decided that Messrs Sinclair and Nocks he the delegates.
