OTAKI CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
. A Chamber of Commerce has been | formed at Otaki. Its objects are as ! follows: j Objects. ! 1. The Otaki Chamber of Commerce is established with the view of conserving and promoting the interests of | Commerce, and of the Borough and dis- ! trict of Otaki. J (a) By collecting information, and discussion. I (b) By approaching the Government and local bodies. J (c) By influencing public opinion. | (d) By co-operation with Chamber of Commerce throughout the Dominion and generally. j (e) By taking such steps as may, i from time to time, bo deemed advisable to encourage suitable industries and to improve the moral and legal status of the community. Membership. 2. The Chamber shall consist of the persons named in the list attached, and of such other persons as may from time to time be elected at any meeting of the Chamber held in accordance with these rules. 3. Every member so elected shall bo proposed and seconded by members of the Chamber, and if a demand for a ballot shall be made the election shall be by ballot. 4. Every member shall on election pay an annual subscription of 10s 6d. Subsequent subscriptions shall be due and payable on the Ist of April in each year. But in the ca.sc of members elected in the last quarter of any year, the Chamber may decide to forego the subscription for that year. 5. Overdue subscriptions may be recovered by the Chamber by process of law.
6, The Chamber shall have the pow
er to expel any member, but such power shall only be exercised by resolution of not less than throe-fourths of the members present at a meeting specially convened for. the purpose. The voting on such resolution shall be by ballot. Officers. 7. The officers and executive of the' Chamber shall be a patron, president, a vice-president, a secretary, a treasurer and five other members. S. The-officers of the Chamber shall be elected at the annual meeting oil the Chamber. Casual vacaucies in any of: the offices may be tilled at any meeting of the Chamber. 9. The secretary shall keep the records, minutes, correspondence and accounts of the Chamber, conduct the correspondence under its direction, collect all fees and other moneys, summon all meetings directed by the Chamber, and to perform such other duties as the Chamber may require.
Meetings. 10. There shall be an annual meeting of the Chamber each year on the second Tuesday in April, to — (a) Receive the report of the president. (b) Receive statement of accounts. (c) Elect officers and auditors and (d) Consider, and, if necessary, take action with reference to any business or motion of which duo notice may have been given, or which the majority of those present may determine to e-n----tertain.
11. The Chamber shall meet once in every month, until otherwise arranged the meetings shall be held at 8 p.m. on the first Thursday in the month. Special meetings may be held by direction of the president, or in his absence of the vice-president, or on the requisition of three members of the Chamber signified in writing to the secretary. 12. No meeting of the Chamber shall be held unless at least five members
are present. 13. Notice of meeting of the Chamber shall be given by advertisement hi a newspaper published in Otaki, or by circular letter.
14. At all meetings of the Chamber
the chairman shall have a deliberate and casting vote. 15. If any member of the Chamber be convicted of any criminal offence, his membership shall be thereby terminated, and if he hold office it shall be declared vacant, and shall be filled as provided in Rule No. 8. Funds.
16. An account shall be opened in the t Post Office Savings Bank, into wdiich i all moneys belonging to the Chamber shall be paid. It shall bo in the names of the secretary and the chairman of the Chamber within 7 days of receipt of same. 17. A statement of receipts and expenditure for the last financial year, j with auditor’s certificate attached, | shall be presented at next annual meot- ■ ing of the Chamber. The financial year . shall end on the last day of March in j each year. } The following rules were added ‘‘That no rule be altered or amended without notice of motion, also that members be circularised on such matter.”
j “That any member who has not paid I his subscription by the May meeting be considered unfinaneial and be de-
barred from voicing’ liis opinions at meetings. ” The matter of the half-holiday question was brought forward by the Chairman, he pointing out that one section desired Saturday, the other Wednesday. He suggested that this matter be left to the business people of the Chamber of Commerce,' by so doing it woidd obviate appointing a new Association. This course was agreed to. Mr Byron Brown was elected Patron of the Association, Mr L. G. Lowry as President, Captain Bax as Vice-presi-dent., and Mr Morse as treasurer.
