THE SCOTCH CONCERT.

A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The grand Scotch concert promoted by the Mayor (Mr Murdoch) lor the: purpose of raising funds towards the Soldiers’ Memorial, was held in the Maoriland Theatre on Tuesday evening, and was well patronised and a financial success. A varied programme was presented, which included selections on the bagpipes and Scottish dancing and singing. A party oi Palmerston North residents journeyed down to Shannon tor the occasion, and assisted materially, together with several ladles i'rom Moutoa, ■ towards making the concer tsuch a success, and their items were much appreciated by those present. The Mayor is to be congratulated on the excellent talent he brought forward, proof of which was the encores received by all the performers. During the interval the Mayor made a strong appeal for donations towards the Memorial, as the outcome cl' which the sum uf t"22 was collected in the hall. Tire following contributed items: Uveiime, Seull.isli airs Miss Aim; Mrs Hall sung, "Cam’ Ye By Athol,” and ‘T.)oon the Burn. Evans- danced die Sheaunireubhs and Highland '.Fling most, gracefully, and was loudly applauded: Mr Bishop, songs, -‘The Floral Dance” and “Hinder Courtship”;. comic snugs, Mr C. Honshu,

“Tobermory,” and “'rite Waggle o Ihe Kill”: song, Mrs ]>avey, “Christmas I .anient”; Highland Fling, Miss D. Campbell; comic songs, Mr TL Cole, •‘Baked Sheep’s .Heart” and “Noses,” both of which brought forth much laughter: songs, Mrs .Bishop, “My Ain Folk,” and “Absent.” Mesrlame* Bovis and G. P. Anderson played the accompanimen.is. After the Mayor had, thanked the visitors for assisting, the proceedings were terminated by tile singing of “Aulil Lang Syne.'' The visitors were then entertained at supper.
