OTAURU CREEK EROSION.
Messrs. Syrnes’.ahd Curran waited on the Borough Council on Tuesday night in regard to the erosion of the Otauru Creek adjoining’their properties, and said lliey would like 1 to have it attended to at-once", as it was causing serious damage, and, being on Council property, they contended the Council should assist in remedying it. They stated the parties concerned were prepared to give their labour if the Council would assist.
Cr. Hyde: The position is that the creek is ploughing into the l bank, and the Council should assist, as by doing so they would be protecting their own property. The Mayor said he would move that a mutual agreenient, be entered into between 'all parties interested to The effect that one person does not cast liability on the other in regard to any work that is done.
Cr. Murray suggested the Engineer inspect and see what was needed. Something serious was going to happen if it wassnof attended to. Mr Svmes slated his objection lo a groyne was that it. was a made sand bank, and would he useless, as it would run away like sugar. Cr. Hook: By putting in a groyne it would keep the -stream straight. Finally, on the motion of Cr. Murray. it was decided the Engineer make and inspection on Wednesday and advise the Council what he considered best to do.
