MANGAHAO PROGRESS.

POWER BOARD’S VISIT

Reporting . to the Horo .vhenua Power Board on Wednesday, Mr A. Seifert said the members who- recently visited the Mangahao works Were extremely well treated indeed by the Engineei’-in-charge. Mr Diiinie gave tip practically the whole day to the party, and gave the fullest possible 'information. The members were very pleased with what they saw, and were quite satisfied that the engineers were doing.their level best to put the work through .as rapidly a& possible, and were just as., keen as anyone else to see it completed. The Public Works Department -was not restricting them in any way, and their instructions were to go right ahead.

The chairman: There is no political pull.

Mr Seifert said the tunnelling was well forward, and in regard :o the dams, they had not yet struck bottom on the site at Mangahao, but the bore was down far enough to get a very good foundation. At Arapeti they had' a rock bottom. As to the time of completion, a great, deal depended upon the next two or three months. If they got good weather and could put down the foundations of the dams, progress could hb continued throughout the winter. -.The contractors were preparing to lay. the pipe line from the surge chamber to the power house. -Altogether, said Mr Seifert, the’ party spent a very useful and informative day. Mr 1 Gunning said completion would not be defiiyed by the tunnelling nor by the pipe line, and if they were favoured by a little fine weather they would get the foundations of the dams put in before the winter. The powerhouse., was also well under way. On Mr Seifert’s motion, it was decided to send. a letter of thanks to Mr Dinnie acknowledging his courtesy in Connection the* visit.
