Regret that many county council and road board engineers had been unable / to! attend the Dominion Conference of the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers in Auckland last week was expressed by Mr Ashley Hunter, president, at the opening of the conference. Their absence was largely due to the fact that the local authorities would not grant them the time to attend. This, said Mr was an unfortunate attitude, for it was greatly to the benefit of all such bodies that their engineers should attend gatherings of this nature, which enabled- them to compare nqtes with other members of the profession who had travelled in all parts of the Dominion, from whom they might obtain much information of interest and value.
